From Pastor Chad and Dana, to the people who we love, In August we let the church know that Dana and I are stepping down from our roles at Federated Covenant Church. We love Dowagiac, we love you, and after a lot of prayer and conversations we have decided that it is best if we have our final day on September 30, 2018. In this process of us preparing to leave, the church has chosen a great interim pastor in Pastor Bob Hamlet. We feel that it is best for the church for us to step back and allow Pastor Bob to lead you into the next phase of Gods great plan for Dowagiac and Fed Cov Church. Over the last six years we have seen God move in amazing ways at Fed Cov. HUNDREDS of people have joined the Kingdom of God, we have had the blessing of seeing many people live a life of recovery through the power of God in Celebrate Recovery, we have small groups that have blessed the life of many, and the children’s and youth ministries have changed the lives of the youth, families, and volunteers. We have come from a church that was expected to die, to a church that needed two services to have enough space for everybody. Through our ups and downs, we have been a church that loves each other even when we didn’t always agree. The fellowship of believer’s time during our Sunday worship has helped to build compelling Christian community and we can’t forget the great coffee 😊. Many times, I have spoken about the impact that Fed Cov has had on the Great Lakes Conference and the ECC. I was speaking with a Pastor from Oregon, Ohio today who said when she and her leaders heard us speak at the Great Lakes Annual Meeting about how God was working through us and bringing vitality to Federated and Dowagiac, it left them with hope and they knew that God could do the same for them. Last Sunday they (Fireside Church) celebrated the opening of their new church building and are impacting Oregon for the Kingdom of God. With all these memories, for some, our departure will be difficult. Because of courteous finality, which we believe is very important for the health of the church, after September 30, we will have to step away and allow Pastor Bob and the leadership team to lead. Dana and I will be living in Chicago while I finish my MACM and wait to see what new role God has for us in the Covenant. Dowagiac is and will always be our home (it is my hometown and Kylie will always be there), and it will be difficult for us to be away, but it will not change our love for Dowagiac and for you. Please join us for our last day, even if you haven’t been around in a while. On September 30, at 11am, I will preach my final sermon and we will be having a going away party Fed Cov style. We will be there to talk and reminisce until the last person leaves. All this being said, we urge you to see this as a positive step forward and to keep the mission going. “Leading people to Jesus who lead people to Jesus” is bigger than any one of us. In our absence after Kylie passed, more than forty people joined the Kingdom of God. We expect to hear greater stories of what God is doing through Fed Cov, once again in our absence. Know that we love you, we will miss you, and we will always be praying for you.
